Global gold demand rose 18% year on year in 2022
Total global gold demand rose 18% year on year to 4,741 tons in 2022, with total demand for bars and coins up 2% to 1,217 tons and jewelry down 3% to 2,086 tons, according to the World Gold Council, with central banks buying 1,136 tons of gold.
On the supply side, total annual global gold supply rose 2% to 4,755 tonnes in 2022, with gold mine production reaching 3,612 tonnes, a four-year high.
In January, the price of large-grain finished diamonds generally fell
The price index for 0.3 carat finished diamonds rose 3.1 per cent in January, while the price index for 0.5 carat, 1 carat and 3 carat finished diamonds fell 0.2 per cent, 0.9 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively, according to Rapaport.
In the 12 months ended Feb. 1, the price index for 0.3 carat, 0.5 carat, 1 carat and 3 carat finished diamonds fell 5.7 per cent, 13.8 per cent, 17.3 per cent and 9.5 per cent respectively.
Colored diamond prices are generally on the rise in 2022
